In addition to those listed, other stakeholders. Risk assessment is the activity that estimates potential building and infrastructure losses from earthquakes, riverine and coastal floods, hurricane winds, and other hazards. In addition to those listed above, other stakeholders include: construction managers, developers, facilities managers, code officials, fire marshals, building inspectors, city/county/state officials, emergency managers, law enforcement agencies, lenders, insurers, and product manufacturers. The establishment of an integrated design process where all of the design team members understand each other's goals can aid in overcoming these challenges and will lead to the development of a solution which addresses all of the requirements. Understanding the interrelationship with the other WBDG design objectives (i. Sustainable, Aesthetics, Cost- Effective, Historic Preservation, Accessible, Functional / Operational and Productive), early in the design process, is an essential step in overcoming the obstacles commonly encountered in the achievement of a secure and safe building. Exterior of National Museum of the American Indian—Washington, DCConsistent with areas of professional responsibility, it is useful to identify four fundamental principles of all- hazard building design: Plan for Fire Protection. Planning for fire protection for a building involves a systems approach that enables the designer to analyze all of the building's components as a total building fire safety system package. Protect Occupant Safety and Health. Some injuries and illnesses are related to unsafe or unhealthy building design and operation. Calling 3 days in advance assures all your underground hazards are located and marked prior to beginning any work. Hazards Of Modern Living Public Art Installation ProposalThese can usually be prevented by measures that take into account issues such as indoor air quality, electrical safety, fall protection, ergonomics, and accident prevention. Natural Hazards Mitigation. Each year U. S. A significant percentage of this amount could be saved if our buildings properly anticipated the risk associated with major natural hazards. Provide Security for Building Occupants and Assets. Effective secure building design involves implementing countermeasures to deter, detect, delay, and respond to attacks from human aggressors. It also provides for mitigating measures to limit hazards to prevent catastrophic damage and provide resiliency should an attack occur. Designing buildings for security and safety requires a proactive approach that anticipates—and then protects—the building occupants, resources, structure, and continuity of operations from multiple hazards. The first step in this process is to understand the various risks they pose. There are a number of defined assessment types to consider that will lead the project team in making security and safety design decisions. This effort identifies the resources or . Based on these assessments and analysis, building owners and other invested parties select the appropriate safety and security measures to implement. Their selection will depend on the security requirements, acceptable levels of risk, the cost- effectiveness of the measures proposed for total design efficiency, evaluation of life cycle cost, and the impact these measures have on the design, construction, and use of the building.
Hazard Mitigation refers to measures that can reduce or eliminate the vulnerability of the built environment to hazards, whether natural or man- made. The fundamental goal of hazard mitigation is to minimize loss of life, property, and function due to disasters. Designing to resist any hazard(s) should always begin with a comprehensive risk assessment. This process includes identification of the hazards present in the location and an assessment of their potential impacts and effects on the built environment based on existing or anticipated vulnerabilities and potential losses. When hazard mitigation is implemented in a risk- informed manner, every dollar spent on mitigation actions results in an average of four dollars' worth of disaster losses being avoided. Regulations, codes, standards, and best practices will guide the design of buildings to resist natural hazards. For new buildings, code requirements serve to define the minimum mitigation requirements, but compliance with regulations in building design is not always sufficient to guarantee that a facility will perform adequately when impacted by the forces for which it was designed. Indeed, individual evaluation of the costs and benefits of specific hazard mitigation alternatives can lead to effective strategies that will exceed the minimum requirements. Additionally, special mitigation requirements may be imposed on projects in response to locale- specific hazards. When a change in use or occupancy occurs, the designer must determine whether this change triggers other mitigation requirements and must understand how to evaluate alternatives for meeting those requirements. It is common for different organizations to use varying nomenclature to refer to the components of risk assessment. For example, actual or potential adversary actions such as sabotage and terrorist attacks are referred to as . Regardless of who is conducting the risk assessment, the fundamental process of identifying what can happen at a given location, how it can affect the built environment, and what the potential losses could be, remains essentially the same from application to application. Integrating Safe and Secure Design. There are times when design requirements addressing all the various threats will pose conflicts in arriving at acceptable design and construction solutions. Examples include Blast Resistant Glazing, which may impede emergency egress in case of fire; access control measures that prevent intrusion, but may also restrict emergency egress; and Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) light pollution reduction and security lighting objectives. Conversely, site design and security can complement each other such as the design of a storm water management requirement that doubles as a vehicle barrier. Good communication between the design team, fire protection and security design team specialists through the entire design process is necessary to achieve the common goal of safe and secure buildings and facilities. Most security and safety measures involve a balance of operational, technical, and physical safety methods. For example, to protect a given facility from unwanted intruders, a primarily operational approach might stress the deployment of guards around the clock; a primarily technical approach might stress camera surveillance and warning sirens; while a primarily physical approach might stress locked doorways and vehicle barriers. In practice, a combination of approaches is usually employed to some degree and a deficiency in one area may be compensated by a greater emphasis in the other two. In addition to the operational/technical/physical taxonomy, it is useful to characterize risk reduction strategies as either structural or non- structural. Buildings designed for resilience can absorb and rapidly recover from a disruptive event. Continuity of operations is a major focus of resilience. The National Response Framework presents guiding principles that enable all response partners to prepare for and provide a unified national response to disasters and emergencies. Resilience of critical infrastructure must also be considered and the analysis must be done from a regional perspective, since the infrastructure of each region of the country can vary significantly. Those infrastructures include water and wastewater, energy, transportation, telecommunications, and public health and safety, among others. Vulnerability, risk and resilience assessments must be done and mitigation options evaluated in concert with resource restraints. For more on this topic see A Regional Resilience/Security Analysis Process for the Nation's Critical Infrastructure Systems(PDF 1. MB). Occupant Emergency Plan. Occupant emergency plans are an integral part of an emergency management program. Properly developed plans can reduce the risk to personnel, property, and other assets while minimizing work disruption during and immediately following an emergency. Department of Energy Model Occupant Emergency Plan. Information Sensitivity. As a result of the heightened level of interest in homeland security following the attacks of 1. September 2. 00. 1, the public is even more interested in efforts to protect people, buildings, and operations from disasters. This interest presents both benefits and challenges, because much of the same information that can be used to gather support for mitigation can also be of use to potential terrorists, saboteurs, or others with malevolent intent. For that reason, project delivery teams must carefully maintain the security of any information that pertains to vulnerabilities or facility infrastructure particularly when the building is part of a critical infrastructure or system. Per Department of Homeland Security (DHS), critical infrastructure is defined as . PCII is used by DHS and other federal, state and local organizations to analyze and secure critical infrastructure and protected systems, identify vulnerabilities and develop risk assessments, and enhance recovery preparedness measures. Clearly defined lines of communication, responsibilities, and operational procedures are all important parts of Emergency Plans. Emergency Plans are an essential element of protecting life and property from attacks and threats by preparing for and carrying out activities to prevent or minimize personal injury and physical damage. This will be accomplished by pre- emergency planning; establishing specific functions for Operational staff and occupants; training Organization personnel in appropriate functions; instructing occupants of appropriate responses to emergency situations and evacuation procedures; and conducting actual drills. Resilience is a primary metric of risk assessment. For example, intelligent objects in 3. Pinterest. El pasado mi. Complete summary of William Faulkner's A Rose for Emily. Comprehensive training programs for individual sports are . Periodized programs provide a progressive buildup to peak fitness and performance. For professional sports that utilize weights in their training, which is most these days, each phase has different objectives and each successive phase builds on the previous one. Important note: Basketball also requires a lot of . Weight training for football requires attention to skills specific to football. Use this program to build strength, power and performance. The part of the program outlined here is confined mostly to the weights and strength development part of the program. You will need to do cardio training to develop aerobic fitness early in the preseason and then build up anaerobic fitness with wind sprints, shuttles, sprints and intervals to be fully prepared for the season start. Aerobic fitness means you can jog or run for a long time at moderate pace without getting too tired. Anaerobic fitness means you can keep going longer at high intensities before your legs and body slow down. Both are important in basketball, especially if you are likely to play the whole game. When you optimize all elements of basketball fitness - - running fitness, strength and power, it is considered peak fitness. A year- long basketball weight training program could look similar to the program I. If you are a coach in charge of your basketball weight training program, use these tips to improve your team’s basketball training.Several weeks break from serious fitness and strength training is helpful. As pre- season approaches, more regular work can resume with an emphasis on building aerobic fitness once again for the pre- season training. Role- specific Training. Within a generic training program for a particular sport, further specialty programs may be useful, especially in teams where members have specific roles and certain advantageous physical attributes apply. For example, in football a quarterback and a defensive lineman will probably have a different program in the gym. One emphasizing speed and agility and the other bulk, strength and power. In basketball, guards are likely to require more agility and speed and less strength and bulk than centers and power forwards, although all of the above would be nice for every player if it was possible. Building strength while minimizing bulk and thus maintaining speed and agility is an essential technique in mobility training for those for whom these attributes are essential. For example, guards might lift heavy, with low repetitions and plenty of rest in between sets in order to build strength without excessive bulk.
On the other hand, the big men would require a program that builds strength and bulk, which means more repetitions and less rest in between sets. Consider the program presented here to be an all- round program, best suited to beginners or casual weight trainers without a history of weight training for basketball. The best programs are always specific to an individual's current fitness, role in the team, access to resources, and, no less important, the team coaches' essential philosophy. You will be best served by using the following program in conjunction with a trainer or coach. If you're new to weight training, brush up on principles and practices with the beginner resources. Always warm up and cool down before and after a training session. A medical clearance for exercise is always a good idea at the start of the season. Phase 1 - Early Pre- Season. Foundation Strength and Muscle. How this phase is approached will depend on whether a player is new to weight training or is coming off a season of weights. Building foundation strength means utilizing a program that works all the major muscle groups of the body. Less experienced weight trainers will need to start with lighter weights and fewer sets and work up to heavier weights with more sets. Start early in the season buildup to get used to this phase if you have not utilized weights previously. Repetitive sports activities can strengthen one side of the body at the expense of the other, or emphasize one or two major muscle groups with similar effect. Inevitably, weak areas can be susceptible to injury and can perform poorly. This is not to say that your non- dominant arm or side has to be as good as your skill- dominant side. But it does mean that you need to allocate sufficient training resources so that you achieve functional foundation strength in all areas including opposing muscles and left and right sides of all major muscle group areas - - back, buttocks, legs, arms, shoulders, chest and abdominals. In the early preseason, the foundation program encompasses a mix of endurance, strength and hypertrophy objectives, which means that the weights are not too heavy and the sets and repetitions are in the range 2 to 4 sets of 1. In this phase, you build some strength, and some muscle size and endurance. Guards and perhaps small forwards need to be careful not to exchange agility and speed for bulk and muscle, although in all cases, strength will be important. Duration: 4 to 6 weeks. Days per week: 2 to 3, with at least one rest day between sessions and a lighter week in week 4 to promote recovery and progression. Reps: 1. 2 to 1. 5Sets: 2 to 4. Rest between sets: 3. Phase 1 Exercises: Points to Note. By trial and error, find a weight that represents a taxing lift for the last few reps of each set. If you're unsure, start with a light weight and increase it as you get stronger within the training period so that the perceived effort remains similar. Don't lift too heavy in this phase. The last few reps in a set should be taxing yet without extreme effort to . You want the arm and shoulder prepared for work but not overtaxed. Do front squats or dumbbell or sled hack squats if the rotation required to position a barbell on the shoulders for the traditional back squat stresses the shoulder joint to the point of discomfort. Shoulder joint protection is important at this and subsequent stages. Circuit training, running training and plyometrics such as bounds and jumps should be added to this gym program to suit your schedule. Stop immediately if acute pain is noticed during or after an exercise, and seek medical and training advice if it persists. Phase 2 - Mid Preseason. Strength Development. In this phase, you will build up strength and muscle. The fast and agile players should be careful not to bulk up too much. You have a good foundation from early preseason workouts, and now the emphasis is on lifting heavier weights in order to train the nervous system in conjunction with the muscle fibers to move bigger loads. Hypertrophy, which is building muscle size, does not necessarily imply strength. However, in the foundation phase and in this phase, hypertrophy will serve you well for strength development. Strength will be the foundation for the next phase, which is power development. Power is the ability to move the heaviest loads in the shortest time. Power is essentially a product of strength and speed. Time of year: Mid preseason. Duration: 4 to 6 weeks. Days per week: 2 to 3, with at least one day between sessions. Reps: 3 to 6. The players relying most on speed and agility should do the lowest number of reps. Sets: 3 to 5. Rest in between sets: 3 to 4 minutes. Phase 2 Exercises: Barbell squat or sled hack squat. Barbell bench press. Romanian deadlift. Lat pulldown to front with wide grip. Pull ups - 3x. 6 repetitions - adjust to suit ability. Points to Note. Adjust the weight so that the final few repetitions are taxing but not to complete failure. The fewer reps mean that you will be lifting heavier in this phase. Get sufficient rest between sets. You need your muscles recovered so that you can complete a heavy lifting session. If you are unable to recover from a session with only one rest day in between, reschedule this program to two sessions each week rather than three. Strength training can be physically and mentally demanding. You will be sore in the muscles after these sessions. Muscle soreness or delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) is normal; joint pain is not. Be sure to monitor your arm and shoulder reactions to this phase. Back off when you feel any joint pain or discomfort. Phase 3 - Late Preseason to In Season. Conversion to Power. In this phase, you build on the strength developed in phase 2 with training that will increase your ability to move a load at high velocity. Power is the combination of strength and speed. Power training requires that you lift lighter weights than you did in the strength phase, yet with explosive intent. You need to rest adequately between repetitions and sets so that each movement is done as fast as possible. The number of sets can be less. There is no point to training like this when you're fatigued. Time of year: late pre- season. Duration: 4 weeks ongoing. Days per week: 2 to 3. Reps: 8 to 1. 0Sets: 2 to 3. Rest between repetitions: 1. Rest between sets: at least 1 minute or until recovery. Phase 3 Exercises: Barbell or dumbbell hang clean. Seated calf raises. Cable push pull. One arm cable raises each arm. Barbell or dumbbell push press. Medicine ball standing twist with partner (6x. Box jump march (6x. Vertical jump (both sides)Plyometrics - Jumping, Bounding. Additional plyometric exercises that emphasize bounding, jumping and hopping can be performed outside of the gym, on court or at a suitable venue. Take care with plyometric exercises because injury can result from injudicious training. An on- site trainer or coach with experience in plyometrics is good insurance. Points to Note. In power training, it's important that you're relatively recovered for each repetition and set so that you can maximize the velocity of the movement. The weights should not be too heavy and the rest periods sufficient. At the same time, you need to push or pull reasonably heavy loads to develop power against reasonable resistance. Lift heavier than phase 1 but lighter than phase 2. With the marches and the medicine ball twists, do a full set at maximum then rest sufficiently before the next one. Rest briefly between each vertical jump so that you can maximize each one. Phase 4 - In- season. Maintenance of Strength and Power. District of Columbia College Grants.
